Lydia Ko survived Danielle Kang for a single-stroke victory at the Gainbridge LPGA in Boca Rio as the New Zealander kept his nerves in an exciting finish.

Ko pulled ahead with a birdie on the 15th hole and matched scores with Kang the rest of the way, finishing with a three-under 69 to keep his good friend away on a cool Sunday in Florida.

Ko won for the second season in a row after enduring a three-year downturn and picked up the 17th victory in his LPGA Tour career.

Kang, who finished with a 68er, tried to win back-to-back for the second time in three years. She won the season opener of the Tournament of Champions a week ago in Orlando.

US Women’s Open champion Yuka Saso, who now plays under the Japanese flag, hit the final two holes with 67 and finished two shots behind.

Cow finished at 14 under 274.

Nelly Korda finished with a 70s and became number 20, a result that is expected to drop her from No. 1 on the world rankings for women. Jin Young Ko, who skipped both events in Florida to stay home in South Korea, would return to No. 1.

The LPGA Tour now takes a one-week break before ending its Florida turn at the LPGA Drive On Championship.
