Wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. has a strong half-season plus playoffs in its first round with the Rams. Does that mean he’s about to get a pay rise for his next contract?
Beckham was released by the Browns on November 8. The Rams signed him to a one-year deal three days later on November 11th. Los Angeles gave him an incentive-filled contract with a base value of $ 1.25 million.
It has already doubled to $ 2.5 million, thanks to incentives linked to the Rams winning wildcard ($ 500,000) and division rounds ($ 750,000) in the NFC playoffs. He can earn up to $ 4.25 million to win the NFC Championship ($ 750,000) and Super Bowl 56 ($ 1 million).
However, consider that Beckham signed a five-year, $ 95 million deal with the Giants in 2018, with a $ 65 million guarantee. After limited production and health following his trade with the Browns, the Rams were able to buy him for cheap money.
Beckham proved a necessity to supplement No. 1 wide receiver Cooper Kupp after Robert Woods sustained a season-ending knee injury (torn ACL) in training on November 12th. OBJ has been a solid possession No. 2 with 6 TDs in 10 games.
But now Beckham, who turned 29 in November, faces a free agent in 2022. The Rams are expected to be well above the salary cap, and Kupp and Woods together count $ 34 million against the ceiling. Van Jefferson Jr., a second-rounder in 2020, will be a coup again at the position. The team will also get 2021 second-rounder Tutu Atwell back healthy on wide receiver.
The Rams may still want Beckham back depending on the price, but they should be much more interested in keeping edge-rusher Von Miller to the defense. Here’s a look at the potential deal Beckham will get from the Rams or another team:
What is the value of Odell Beckham Jr. in 2022?
There are some similar contracts for veteran widows in 2021 that could provide the blueprint. The Colts brought back TY Hilton and the Steelers re-signed JuJu Smith-Schuster in one year and $ 8 million. The Cardinals added AJ Green and the Bills signed Emmanuel Sanders for one year and $ 6 million.
That range works right for Beckham, and so does another short-term deal. That should explain the fact that he will be 30 next season and carries a significant injury history. The Ravens signed Sammy Watkins at one year and $ 5 million in 2021. That would be the absolute low end for Beckham, given his good complementary production.

Beckham has had success with the Rams because he has seen good coverage away from the Coup. He is no longer the dynamic No. 1 he was for the Giants as a rookie and at the beginning of his career. He will have to step into a situation similar to his current one.
The Bears could use OBJ as they will not re-sign Allen Robinson against Darnell Mooney. The dolphins should also have an interest in him to complement Jaylen Waddle.
When it comes to playoff teams, the Raiders may need veteran help on the position to support Hunter Renfrow with Zay Jones unsigned. The Colts could look to Beckham to replace Hilton as a good fit with Michael Pittman Jr. Likewise, the Cardinals may need him with DeAndre Hopkins, as Green and Christian Kirk are unsigned.
In terms of being in comfortable cap positions and having a need for the position, it is the five teams that need to be seen the most. The wildcard is Chiefs, who may be trying to make him the new Watkins away from Tyreek Hill.
Beckham’s time with the Browns raised questions about how much he had left. His rebound with the Rams says he could become a valuable veteran to boost (probably) another passing game soon.
