Google reviews for plumbers: get more without chasing

Plumbing is often a distress purchase. The tap is dripping through the ceiling, or the boiler has stopped, and the customer picks up a phone and searches. They rarely compare ten firms. They look at the top few results, check the star rating and the number of reviews, and ring one. If you have fewer reviews than the plumber two streets over, you lose the call before you have had a chance to quote.

What customers search for

These are the kinds of searches that bring plumbers their calls. Your profile and your reviews decide who shows up.

  • emergency plumber near me
  • plumber in [your town]
  • blocked drain [your town]
  • leaking tap or toilet repair
  • bathroom fitter near me

When to ask for a review

The best time is the moment the water is back on and the customer is relieved. Send the request before you leave the driveway or within the hour. After an emergency callout, a text the same evening works well, once things have calmed down.

Set up your Google profile properly

  • Choose Plumber as your main category, then add secondary ones that match what you really do, such as Bathroom fitter or Drainage service.
  • List each service separately: leak repair, taps and toilets, bathroom installation, drain unblocking. Each one is something a customer might search for.
  • Set your service area by town or postcode district. Do not list places you would not drive to.
  • If you take out-of-hours calls, say so in the description and set your hours honestly.
  • Add photos of finished work and of you or your van. Customers want to see who is turning up.

Example messages

Short, honest and easy to act on. Edit them so they sound like you.

Hi Sam, thanks for choosing [Your business] for the leaking tap repair. I would really appreciate your honest feedback on Google. It only takes a minute and helps other people find a trusted local plumber: [your review link] Thanks, [Your name]

Hi [name], glad we got your hot water back on. If you have a minute, an honest review on Google would help other people find a plumber they can trust: [link]

The wording asks for honest feedback and does not offer anything in return. That keeps you within Google's rules and UK consumer law. What you can and cannot ask.

One thing to avoid

Do not skip the customer who grumbled about the callout fee. Ask everyone. A fair, calm response to a mixed review shows prospects how you handle problems.

Replying when it goes wrong

An example of a calm, specific reply for this trade:

Thank you for your feedback, [name]. I'm sorry the call-out charge was a surprise. I should have explained it before I arrived. Please call me so I can talk it through. [Your name]
